Capturing our unique little beings ... Part 1

When it comes to documenting children, I am a big fan of celebrating what makes them unique. Yes there is a beautiful nostalgia in a photo that has siblings all together, but there’s also something special about taking the time to have each child shine in their own element.

I have been updating the images I want to have of my own children - the ones I want to have forever that are deliberatly not phone photos - and I love that I have something about them that is meaningful and resonant of them and this stage of their lives.

Here are two of them I am sharing, two to follow …..

Zoe

I was so happy I got the chance to photograph Zoe and her amazing beautiful red hair! Zoe needed some casting shots for her acting. For casting headshots we need to focus on head and shoulders, good lighting without harsh shadows, and have them sized to a ratio to fit the industry standard of 8 x 10inch for print. I advised to Zoe to wear anything green/bluish as this colour best compliments her hair and skin tone. Also important is to avoid patterns as they add distraction. White is definately not the best colour to wear for this type of photo as it is important to compliment your skintone and white can wash it out.

During the shoot we focused on gaze and getting connection with the eyes, as well as chin placement and posture. She did an amazing job under direction and I think you will agree she looks incredible! I would cast her!

We managed to some portrait style images as well which I’m glad we got a chance to. That amazing hair!
